The Hunger Games
Winning will make you famous. Losing means certain death.
In a dark vision of the near future, a terrifying reality TV show is taking place. Twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live event called the Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed.
When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.
Where do I start?
I loved the Hunger Games. Bluntly put.
Katniss Everdeen was a kick-ass heroine and I loved her to bits. She was a little distant, and that is understandable considering the situation. Her emotions were usually in check. Katniss was a controlled person and extremely protective. Even if it took her a while to catch on, she always did in the end. We got just enough insight to her past.
The book starts off straight to the point. Reaping day. The day where two tributes would be chosen. At the reaping I was almost crying when little Prim with her duck tail was called out despite the odds. And then Katniss volunteered to take her place. Best sister in the world. Then came Peetra Mellark, the boy with the bread. The boy who had given Katniss hope.
The characters were well developed. The descriptions were very detailed and built a clear picture in my mind. The plot was extremely thought out and amazing. I was always at the edge of my seat with the suspense. I kept wondering what would happen next. With each tribute that Katniss came face-to-face with I would hold my breath, praying that she'd come out of it okay.
5/5 stars.
